What’s New in 2022

The MMT Blog / What’s New in 2022

Welcome to the MMT Blog! It’s only January, but we are gearing up for the start of our cruise season! Our Spring Wildlife Cruise begins daily departures March 5th from Seward and we can’t wait to get back out on the water and explore the stunning landscape and incredible wildlife that calls Resurrection Bay home.

Brand New Hotel and Catamarans!

Last year was a big season for us, after a challenging 2020 we were able to welcome completed construction on both a new hotel and a new boat! Opened in May 2021, the Gateway Hotel was a welcome addition to Seward for us. Located just down the street from the Harbor 360 Hotel, the Gateway Hotel is a seasonally-operated lodging option open from May to September each year. We were especially proud of the positive feedback we received for our hardworking staff at the Gateway and prioritizing the cleanliness and modernity for our guests. We are looking forward to another successful season with plans of opening May 16th!

Not only did we complete construction on a new hotel, but we also welcomed a brand new catamaran to our fleet: the Spirit of MatushkaThe boat’s name celebrates one of the beloved orcas that frequents Kenai Fjords National Park throughout the season. The Spirit of Matushka was a passenger favorite in it’s inaugural season, with rave reviews about the “stadium style” standing area on the bow that makes for ideal whale watching viewing. So what’s next for our fleet in 2022? How about another brand new catamaran! More on that to come later this spring.

4 Hour Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise

The half-day Resurrection Bay Cruise will now be a 4 Hour Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise, adding an extra 30 minutes for wildlife viewing in Resurrection Bay! It might not seem like a big change, but when you have that extra time the Captains will be able to cover more water, visit Spire Cove more often, and definitely see more wildlife.

7.5 Hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise

We are happy to announce that after a 2 year hiatus, the 7.5 Hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise is back! This is a local and crew favorite and we are so excited to have it back on our schedule. The 7.5 Hour Cruise takes one of the high speed catamarans to visit both tidewater glaciers in Aialik Bay. The tour will get you up close and personal with Holgate and Aialik Glaciers and have more time to view wildlife.

6 Hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise morning departure

The 6 Hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise now has a morning departure for those early risers and cruise ship guests. The new departure time of 8am is in addition to the popular 11:30am departure, and will run from June 10th to August 21. The morning trip will return at 2pm, allowing for plenty of time to board a cruise ship or explore town.

30th Anniversary at Major Marine!

This year, Major Marine Tours celebrates our 30th anniversary of cruising in Kenai Fjords National Park. It’s incredible to think of all of the people that have experienced this beautiful national park from one of our cruises in the past 30 years. As a locally-owned family company, we take pride in sharing the authentic Alaska with our friends and visitors. Thanks to all of our customers for choosing to cruise with us, and we hope to see you again on one of our cruises soon.
