Whittier Directions & Check-In Information
DRIVING FROM ANCHORAGE
Take the Seward Highway (Hwy 1) south along the Turnagain Arm. Approximately 11 miles south of Girdwood you will see a sign for Portage Glacier and Whittier. Turn left on Portage Glacier Road and follow the signs to Whittier. Whittier is 62 miles south of Anchorage. Allow at least 1.5 hours of driving time to reach the tunnel to Whittier.
Whittier is only accessible via the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel. You must take the 10:30 a.m. tunnel for the Surprise Glacier Cruise and the 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. tunnel for the Blackstone Bay Glacier Cruise. Do not take the 12:30 p.m. tunnel. Toll fees range from $13 for passenger vehicles to $38 for RVs. More information about the tunnel can be found on the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel website.
UPON ARRIVING IN WHITTIER
Proceed directly to the Pay Public Parking Area indicated on the map below. Check in at the Major Marine Tours Office in the Marine Parking Lot by the Cruise Ship Depot. Please check in at least 30 minutes prior to your cruise departure time.
ARRIVING BY TRAIN
From the Alaska Railroad Train Stop, proceed directly across the street to the Major Marine Tours Office.
