Our 5 Hour Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise explores the calm, protected waters and rugged coastline of Resurrection Bay. You will experience up-close encounters with wildlife as we guide our ship along massive bird rookeries and sea lion colonies, stopping along the route to view passing whales and otters. You will see alpine glaciers tucked in the surrounding Chugach and Kenai Mountain Ranges and cruise by Bear Glacier, a piedmont glacier and the largest glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. A National Park Ranger will be onboard to narrate your cruise. The protected waters of Resurrection Bay are calmer than the open waters visited on our longer Kenai Fjords National Park cruises, making this tour a better option for those who are prone to seasickness.
Tax, harbor fee, and meal not included in the above prices.
Our 5 Hour Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise departs from the Seward Small Boat Harbor at 12:00 p.m. You will cruise along the rugged coastline of Resurrection bay in search of wildlife including humpback whales, orca whales, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoises, sea otters, bald eagles, and many types of seabirds.
A National Park Ranger will be onboard to provide a detailed narrative on the history, ecology, geology, and wildlife in the area. They are always more than happy to answer your questions during the cruise.
Soon after we depart we will begin serving our optional Alaska salmon and prime rib meal that is freshly prepared onboard. This meal is served buffet style and is consistently rated as the best of any day-cruise company in Southcentral Alaska. While you enjoy our cruising restaurant service you will be able to sit at your reserved seat inside the heated cabin and not miss out on any of the beautiful scenery.
Several alpine glaciers, nestled high in the mountains surrounding Resurrection Bay, can be seen along the route if the weather permits. We may also cruise by Bear Glacier, a piedmont glacier and the largest glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park.
As we approach the end of Resurrection Bay we will visit Cape Resurrection, home to Steller sea lions and thousands of nesting seabirds. The captain will stop the boat close to the sea lion colonies and seabird rookeries, providing excellent photo opportunities.
This cruise is indicated as the red line on the cruise map. Routes may vary depending on wildlife and weather conditions.
This was our second wildlife tour on Major Marine. First was in 2013, and was awesome. This time we took friends along, and we all had a fantastic time. The meal was excellent, the Ranger on board was very informative, and the staff was personable and professional. Loved Captain Gary! We will definitely be back for a third trip. Major Marine seems to have a more personal touch than the others.
My family and I did the 5 hour tour of Kenai Fjords…There are other companies that do the exact same routs as Major but this one attracted us because it is owned and run locally and the cost was significantly less than a few other companies…From the second we checked in until the second we got off the boat it was clear to us that every single staff and crew member cared about us personally and individually. Service was top notch. I would also state that course if you see some cool sightings (aka – whales, bears, orcas, etc) this can make or break a cruise but we know the staff and captain cannot control any of this; what they can control is the excitement, care, compassion and interest factors; we did see all of the above plus puffins, otters, gulls, etc but it was clear from the captain on down they genuinely wanted to see and teach about the animals also. I cannot compliment them enough. Thank you for making our day amazing.
We had an absolutely fabulous 5 hour day cruise with this company. They have a park ranger on board the ship that gives you so much information about what you’re seeing around you. Ranger Lynn is truly amazing to listen to!! Easy check in, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. You get on board and are given a table with chairs as your home base, think little diner, with small kitchen tables. You then have complete freedom to roam wherever you like on the ship. We did purchase the optional dinner on board, all you can eat salmon & prime rib and it was also spectacular! This was the highlight of our vacation!!
