Ride the Famous Alaska Railroad with our Surf & Turf Package

The MMT Blog / Ride the Famous Alaska Railroad with our Surf & Turf Package

No trip to Alaska is complete without a ride on the famous Alaska Railroad. The iconic blue and gold train cars travel 500 miles from Seward all the way up to Fairbanks, connecting two of the top destinations in Alaska: Kenai Fjords National Park and Denali National Park. Our popular Surf & Turf package pairs two of our cruise options with round-trip transportation on the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic Train for an awesome fun-filled day of Alaskan adventures. If that weren’t good enough, you get 20% off the cruise and train when you book this package, including our Alaska Salmon & Prime Rib Meal served during your cruise.

Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic Train

Your journey on the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic Train will begin with a scenic ride from Anchorage to Seward. You will view the incredible beauty of the Turnagain Arm and Kenai Peninsula through the train’s large picture windows, or get some fresh air from the outside viewing areas between the railcars. The Coastal Classic Train winds along the Turnagain Arm, where towering mountains rise from the dramatic shoreline. Keep an eye out for Dall sheep, eagles, and even beluga whales.

At the end of Turnagain Arm the train separates from the road system, taking you through the mountainous backcountry of the Kenai Peninsula – considered to be one of the most scenic stretches of the Alaska Railroad. You will pass by alpine glaciers, including the impressive Spencer Glacier, and enjoy views of waterfalls, mountains, and deep river gorges. Keep an eye out for wildlife including moose, brown bears, and black bears. The conductor will slow the train when they spot wildlife so you don’t miss out on any photo-ops. The Coastal Classic train is fully narrated by the Alaska Railroad’s informative guides. If you work up an appetite from all of that sightseeing, the onboard Wilderness Cafe serves up grab-and-go meal items, snacks, coffee, cold drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

Embark on your Major Marine Tours Cruise

Two cruise options are available with our Surf & Turf Package: our 5 Hour Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise and our 6 Hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise. The 5 Hour Cruise travels along the rugged coastline of Resurrection Bay, where you will search for wildlife including whales, Steller sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals, puffins, and many other species of seabirds. We recommend this cruise if you are concerned about seasickness since it travels through calmer waters.

If you’re interested in seeing both glaciers and wildlife, we recommend our 6 Hour Cruise, which travels to an actively calving tidewater glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. This cruise also has great chances of seeing whales and other wildlife. Both cruise are narrated by our experienced captains and include the fun and educational Junior Ranger Program for kids. Included in your Surf & Turf package is or delicious Alaska Salmon & Prime Rib Meal, served onboard during the cruise. The 5 Hour Cruise returns at 5:00pm and the 6 Hour Cruise returns at 5:30pm, giving you plenty of time to walk back to the train depot for a 6:30pm departure back to Anchorage.
