The MMT Blog / Happy 100th Birthday, National Park Service!

If you haven’t heard the news yet, the National Park Service is celebrating a big milestone this year. On August 25th, 2016, the National Park Service will be turning 100! In honor of this special occasion the NPS has planned special events and campaigns throughout the year to encourage people to explore our beautiful and diverse national park lands. The Find Your Park website is the online hub for all things National Park Centennial, and from here you can learn about your national parks, share your stories, and search for events in your area.

Visitors to any of the 58 national parks and hundreds of national monuments and national recreation areas will receive free admission during National Park Week, April 16th – 24th. Though Major Marine Tours cruises into Kenai Fjords National Park don’t start until May 7th and admission into the national park is free for all of our guests already, we encourage you to explore other national parks in your area next week! Alaska is home to more than half of America’s national park lands, with 17 national parks spread throughout the state.

Kenai Fjords National Park

Major Marine Tours would like to help you Find Your Park this summer by showing you the incredible glaciers, wildlife, and scenery in Kenai Fjords National Park. This unique park encompasses more than a thousand square miles of land and water but has very few roads and trails. The Harding Icefield is the heart of the park, with around 40 glaciers flowing from the 700 square miles of ice that makes up this expansive icefield. The best way to experience Kenai Fjords National Park is by boat, where you can explore the coves, islands, tidewater glaciers, and wildlife species that make this area a must-see part of Alaska.

You can see Kenai Fjords National Park for yourself on one of three national park cruises. Our 6 Hour and 7.5 Hour cruises are on high-speed catamarans and feature National Park Ranger narration and our Alaska salmon and prime rib buffet. For the adventurous traveler we offer our 8.5 Hour Northwestern Fjord Cruise, which travels father than any of our cruises to the remote Northwestern Fjord on a small vessel. This summer we are also featuring a special National Park Centennial Cruise & Train Package, which pairs our 6 Hour cruise with round-trip train transportation on the Alaska Railroad for a discounted price. We are proud of our nearly 20 year partnership with the National Park Service and are excited to help them celebrate their big birthday! Let Major Marine Tours help you #FindYourPark in 2016!
